Great Blue Heron on Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge;
Black Point Wildlife Drive out on the refuge is a wonderful place to go if you like to photograph birds yet don't have a 600mm or longer lens. Stay in and shoot from your vehicle, and you can be rewarded with some great opportunities. However, if you try to get out of the vehicle, every bird close by will immediately leave.
The birds and other wildlife here are relatively accustomed to vehicles and often stay quite close to the drive. This Great Blue Heron stayed very close to the road as I drove up, and eventually he crossed the road not ten feet in front of my vehicle.
